Product/System Innovation Award

Entry Criteria

A wide-ranging category open to a huge range of innovative new products and systems, or older timber technologies on the market used in a fresh and inventive way.

The entrant must demonstrate the timber-based product/system or emerging technology meets the appropriate UK building regulations, building safety requirements, health and safety standards and is playing an integral role in the structural timber market.

This can be a physical product designed specifically for timber technology usage or a general building product that reveals a new dimension when used in conjunction with other materials or systems to boost timber innovation.

Evidence must be provided of where real value has been added to timber usage, manufacture, skills development, delivery or installation of timber products/systems.

Entry Questions:

1. Describe what your product/system does, design innovation and what site or project-specific challenges the product/component/assembly overcomes and how it has focused clients, building users and wider supply chain on timber technology.

2. Explain how the product/system/component/assembly has added real value to the timber supply chain and project development e.g. innovative design and usage, cost savings, accuracy and predictability, speed of installation, digital thinking, environmental impact and where it has clearly demonstrated operational improvements.

3. Describe how the product/system/component/assembly has contributed to advancing the development and reputation of timber technology and has increased wider market opportunities, skills development, including any collaborations with academia/research centres/testing facilities.

4. Describe what lessons have been learned about timber as a construction material inside and outside of the product/system development team and how your innovation has been benchmarked and revealed improvements compared to similar or previous versions of the same product. Has it got flexible and transferable uses?

5. Give FIVE key reasons why your product/system/component/assembly is exceptional and should be considered as the best example this year. Has it been tested, trialled and proven to comply with building safety standards, across the timber sector and wider construction landscape.
