Private Housing Project of the Year
Entry Criteria
Housing quality and its availability are two of the UK’s hottest topics.
Taking in volume housebuilders, smaller developments and self-build projects, this category is seeking to reward individuals, developers and contractors looking to deliver higher levels of homes via any timber solution e.g. mass timber options, closed and open panel timber frame, SIPS etc.
Entries should seek to clearly show how the project is helping create a new generation of sustainable, energy efficient and desirable places to live.
Projects can be of any location, scope and size and should all display high levels of timber usage, design and delivery to create homes effectively and economically to create better quality, sustainable places to live and work.
The winner will have shown vision in meeting the client and eventual occupier’s needs and show a clear understanding of ‘sense of place’ and community.
Entry Questions:
1. Describe the reasons behind the specification of timber technology as the central construction method or key element of the project and why this approach was chosen. Entries should consider how timber options are applied to Future Homes Standards requirements.
2. Explain how the use of timber technology has provided a major element in the delivery of the final project – e.g. cost-predictability, long term value, insurance, overall building performance, sustainability, energy efficiency and quality of design, speed of installation and building running costs.
3. How has the project provided a unique and innovative solution when benchmarked against competing materials, e.g. integrated into the local landscape, architecture, local planning concerns, social value impact and health and safety and maintenance.
4. Demonstrate how the use of timber was used to improve project outcomes, e.g. use of digital construction technology and tools/BIM, factory manufacture, efficient site delivery and installation techniques.
5. Give FIVE key reasons why your project is exceptional and should be considered as the best example this year. Is it a trailblazer or future inspiration for others to follow within the housing sector e.g. meeting the needs of the local market, client\’s demands, aesthetics, low carbon approach, thermal efficiency, waste reduction, engineering excellence and installation ease. Will it be applied to future developments?
