Engineer of the Year
Entry Criteria
Open to an individual, single firm, or any size of collaborative team.
This award will be given to those that have demonstrated an innovative and integrated approach to create a landmark building or developed a project delivery model with any kind of timber technology at its core – CLT, glulam, LVL, SIPS, timber frame etc.
This can include using any option or approach to overcome site or project-specific challenges, by using timber-based products and systems in an innovative way and take timber engineering to new performance levels. This can be by employing digital construction techniques and tools, employing principles of the circular economy or factory-based precision to meet the challenges of designing any type of building.
Entry Questions:
1. Describe the ways in which the engineering element of the project/product was innovative and original and took timber technology to a new level.
2. Demonstrate how circular economy principles and energy efficient considerations were implemented where appropriate, including materials, waste reduction, resource efficiency and wider sustainability benefits. Explain how this approach was key to the project and/or products success.
3. Detail what new design and engineering techniques and problem-solving attitudes were applied to the project/product and how timber technology fitted into this, e.g. use digital construction tools and techniques/software to help manage complex tasks.
4. Demonstrate clearly how your project and/or product met and exceeded the client\’s expectations and delivered value for money and how the finalised project delivers innovative and original engineering techniques outside of the \’norm\’.
5. Give FIVE key reasons why your work and approach are exceptional and should be considered as the best example this year. Can it be seen as a future example for others to follow, has it provided a unique and innovative building solution compared to competing materials for the client and team members?
