Project of the Year

Entry Criteria

This can apply to any sector or building type regardless of size and scale.

Project of the Year will highlight outstanding examples across the UK construction landscape that have been designed and delivered using timber technology as a major component part of its brief.

The winner will have proved that they have used timber solutions with skill and ingenuity to create a sustainable low-carbon building, showcasing the structural and engineering strengths of timber.

Entrants must show how they have met client/project expectations in providing a sustainable, energy efficient and cost-effective contemporary building, as well as how cost-predictability, economy, accuracy, transportability, and installation speed have all been achieved.

The focus will be on projects delivering exceptional levels of architectural design, detailing and installation/erection. Particular note will be made of circular economy principles, proof of outstanding energy performance levels and low environmental impact, technical achievement, supply chain management and overall best practice.

Entry Questions:

1. Describe how your project demonstrates the highest levels of technical achievement, innovation, and best practice in the use of timber technology and why this approach was chosen when compared to competing materials.

2. Explain how the use of timber technology has provided a major element in the delivery of the final project – e.g. cost and budget-predictability, speed of installation, long term value, overall sustainability and building performance.

3. Explain your approach to sustainability, how you have employed circular economy principles, measured carbon and quantified environmental impact, waste reduction, biomimicry, less transport, installation time etc. Please highlight use of PEFC/FSC and certified material where appropriate.

4. Evidence how the final building/project outcome has been judged by the client and/or awarding body – what boundaries have been pushed and what can the wider construction industry learn from this project?

5. Give FIVE key reasons why your project is exceptional and should be considered as the best project this year. Can it be seen as a future example for others to follow, e.g. aesthetics and architectural impact, low carbon approach, thermal efficiency, use of digital tools, skills development, structural and engineering excellence.
