Pioneer Award
Entry Criteria
This award will be given to an individual, company or project team that has made – or is making – a major contribution to raising the profile of structural timber or using it as a defining feature of its design and build programme in the UK.
This can include using timber to overcome site or project-specific challenges, using timber products and systems in a different way to the ‘norm’, achieving new performance levels, employing digital construction/BIM tools, circular economy principles and innovative thinking and strategies to meet the challenges of designing any type of building.
This also includes those that have taken a pioneering approach to promoting timber, by showcasing it to the wider construction industry in the UK and overseas, media promotion, but also those individuals and institutions publicising, teaching and training a new generation of construction entrants to embrace timber technology in future building design.
Entry Questions:
1. Describe the ways the nominee has championed the timber industry in the last 12 months, been inspirational, changed behaviour or has been central to creating lasting change and innovation within the sector.
2. Describe the ways the nominee has made timber construction and its methodology more visible, appealed to the wider construction community or changed industry mindsets about what building and designing with timber can deliver.
3. Detail how the nominee has acted as a leader, opinion former or agent of change, used specific design, architectural, engineering techniques, problem solving attitudes, digital technology, teaching and training sessions, and original thinking to the improvement of the timber sector.
4. Describe how the nominee\’s performance, skills or influence has been inspirational, altered perceptions or changed the behaviour and performance of others and left a legacy within the timber sector and beyond.
5. Give FIVE key reasons why the nominee has been/is exceptional and should be considered as the best example this year. Can they/it be seen as a future example for others to follow, e.g. innovative thinking, leadership, design, product and system, environmental impact development/application and delivering a lasting change for the future.
